Reddit, Inc. (RDDT) — Value Investing Research
Analysis date: September 5, 2026 | Financial data as of: FY2025 full-year results and Q4 2025 results (announced February 5, 2026) | Valuation as of: September 4, 2026 ($154.46) | Data: SEC EDGAR pipeline output + company press releases + public research | Methodology: Value investing research framework | Educational research only — not investment advice.
0. One-Page Verdict
Reddit, Inc. (RDDT) is one of the scarcest owners of high-quality AI training data in an era that is short on it. The advertising engine is growing fast, but the current valuation already discounts most of that growth — a good business, a good story, a fair price, and no meaningful margin of safety.
| Dimension | Conclusion |
|---|---|
| Thesis type | Early-to-mid value expansion (revenue +69% YoY, Adj EBITDA margin flipped from negative to 38.4%, platform DAUq +19%) |
| Object type | Current advantage — the community and its data corpus are earning money today and the advantage is visible, but the property being paid for (a durable ad and licensing business) is already in the numbers rather than ahead of them |
| Value-creation cycle | Early-to-mid value expansion (2024 IPO, 2025 profit inflection, growth flywheel accelerating) |
| Premium / discount | Fair premium (two narratives — AI data licensing and high advertising growth — support the valuation) |
| Core investment logic | Community trust → high-quality UGC → AI training-data licensing and high ad conversion → network effects |
| Valuation status | At $154.46 the shares imply EV/FY2026E Adj EBITDA ~25x and EV/FY2025 Adj EBITDA ~32x — in the middle of a reasonable range for a growth story |
| Research verdict | Worth monitoring — the business model is distinctive (AI data asset + high-trust community advertising), growth is real (+69% revenue, +75% Q4 advertising), and the moat is real (community culture + data flywheel), but the valuation is not cheap, the story is narrative-driven, and competition is intensifying |
| What would change this | A pullback to the $120-140 band (where the multiple compresses to ~18-22x EV/EBITDA) would improve the risk/reward; proof of durable gross margin expansion or sustained double-digit growth in the ad take-rate would also strengthen the case |
In one line: The business model is distinctive (AI data asset + high-trust community advertising), the growth is real (+69% revenue, +75% Q4 advertising), and the moat is real (community culture + data flywheel); but the valuation is not cheap, the story is narrative-driven, and competition is intensifying.
1. The Business: What It Actually Does
Reddit is a two-sided information exchange: free user-generated content in exchange for attention, monetised through advertising and, increasingly, through licensing that content to AI model builders.

- Class B carries 10 votes per share and is held by the founders and early investors; Reddit is a "controlled company" under NYSE rules
- Institutional and public ownership moves quarter to quarter; this report does not split it out precisely (estimate)
1.2 Business model and revenue mix
Advertising is the business at ~94% of revenue; data licensing is the option the market keeps re-rating. Everything else — Premium, API licensing, commerce commission — is small change.
| Type | Description | Share (FY2025) | Model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advertising revenue | Programmatic + native ads + AMA + Conversation Placement | ~94% | Transactional, billed on impressions and clicks |
| Other revenue | Reddit Premium, API licensing, data licensing, commerce commission | ~6% | Subscription + licensing |
FY2025 advertising revenue was $2,062.5M and other revenue $140M — 93.6% and 6.4% of revenue respectively (company-reported). The ~94% / ~6% figures in the table are rounded for display.
The advertising business in detail (the operating metrics below come from a third-party aggregation — Digital Applied — and are estimates, for order-of-magnitude reference only):
- Programmatic ads: automated delivery, billed on CPC/CPM
- Conversation Placement: native ads embedded in the comment feed, CTR 0.41% (the highest on the platform)
- AMA Ads: sponsored Q&A, average dwell time of 3 min 47 sec
- Free-Form Ads: long-form ads, average dwell time of 41 sec
- Reddit Pro: self-serve advertising platform for SMBs, used by 1.2M businesses
- Average CPC: $1.47 (far below Meta at $5-8 and LinkedIn at $10-15)
- Average CPM: $5.20 (roughly half of Meta's)
Engagement formats carry the load. Conversation Placement posts the highest CTR on the platform at 0.41%, AMA Ads sustain attention for 3 min 47 sec on average and Free-Form Ads for 41 sec — against an average CPC of $1.47 and CPM of $5.20, Reddit sells attention cheaply and monetises it through the format rather than through price.
The AI data licensing business:
- Google: $60M/year, multi-year agreement
- OpenAI: ~$70M/year, multi-year agreement
- Anthropic: in litigation (accused of scraping user content without authorisation)
- Combined: ~$130M/year, ~6% of 2025 revenue
Licensing is small relative to the platform today, which is exactly the point: ~$130M/year is 6% of 2025 revenue, and it is the line the growth multiple is really being paid for. The OpenAI agreement at ~$70M/year is the larger of the two, and the Anthropic litigation adds a third relationship whose outcome is still open.
1.3 Key financials
The financial picture changed shape in FY2025: losses through FY2024, then a profit inflection that carried gross margin to 91% and free cash flow to $684M.
| Metric | FY2022 | FY2023 | FY2024 | FY2025 | FY2026E |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $667M | $804M | $1.30B | $2.20B | ~$3.0B |
| Revenue growth | — | +21% | +62% | +69% | ~+36% |
| Net income | -$159M | -$91M | -$484M | +$530M | ~$700M |
| Net margin | -24% | -11% | -37% | 24% | ~23% |
| Adj EBITDA | -$101M | -$69M | +$298M | +$845M | ~$1.1B |
| Adj EBITDA margin | -15% | -9% | 23% | 38% | ~37% |
| Gross margin | 84% | 86% | 91% | 91% | ~91% |
| Operating cash flow | -$94M | -$75M | +$222M | +$691M | ~$800M |
| FCF | -$100M | -$85M | +$216M | +$684M | ~$800M |
| ROE | — | -22% | -23% | 18% | ~22% |
| Liabilities / assets | — | 9.8% | 8.8% | 9.6% | Declining |
| Cash and equivalents | $436M | $401M | $562M | $954M | — |
FY2022-FY2025 figures come from the SEC EDGAR pipeline output (
cases/RDDT/RDDT_framework_metrics.csv) and the company press releases; Adj EBITDA, FCF and gross margin are company-defined non-GAAP measures. FY2026E is this report's estimate off the FY2025 run rate: the interim 10-Q (filed July 31, 2026) shows H1 revenue of $1,468M and net income of $457M, consistent with that order of magnitude, but the valuation below is still measured on the FY2026E basis.Cash and securities combined (company-reported): FY2023 $1,213M, FY2024 $1,840.8M, FY2025 $2,477M. FY2025 split: cash $954M + marketable securities $1,523M (= $2,477M − $954M, derived inside this report).
Q4 2025 quarterly detail:
- Revenue $726M (+70% YoY, +24% QoQ)
- Advertising revenue $690M (+75% YoY), other revenue $36M (+8% YoY)
- Gross margin 91.9%
- Adj EBITDA $327M (margin 45.1%, +112% YoY)
- Net income $252M (net margin 34.7%)
- Operating cash flow $267M, FCF $264M
- Basic EPS $1.32 / diluted EPS $1.24
- DAUq 121.4M (+19% YoY, +4.7% QoQ, versus 116.0M in Q3 2025), WAUq 471.6M (+24% YoY)
- ARPU $5.98 globally (+42%), $10.79 US (+53%), $2.31 international (+38%)
The step-up is broad rather than concentrated in one line. Q4 revenue grew +70% YoY, Adj EBITDA +112% YoY and net income to a 34.7% net margin, with ARPU growth of +42% YoY running well ahead of DAUq growth of +19% YoY, so the revenue growth is a price effect and a volume effect compounding rather than one of the two carrying the other.
1.4 Business characteristics
Reddit's operating characteristics sit closer to a high-margin, low-turnover marketplace than to a traditional social network: margins scale with engagement rather than with headcount.
- Platform + asset-light: not a traditional social network, and no infrastructure cost for producing UGC
- Network effects: more users → more content → more advertisers → more revenue
- Data flywheel: user interaction → training data → AI optimisation → better experience → more users
- Regulatory complexity: content moderation, copyright, privacy compliance
- Cyclical exposure: advertising spend correlates with the macroeconomy
- Business characteristics: platform-type with high marginal profit (fits the "high-margin, low-turnover" profile)
The cyclical exposure is the price of the asset-light model: there is no contract revenue to cushion an advertising downturn, and the risk table quantifies the damage at AD revenue -20-30% with revenue growth slowing.
2. The Investment Case
Reddit is small inside a very large market, and the entire investment case rests on how much of that market it can take without damaging pricing.
2.1 Market size and potential
2.1.1 The US digital advertising market
The US digital advertising market is enormous and Reddit's slice of it is currently rounding error — which is exactly why the market pays a growth multiple for the shares it does own.
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| US digital advertising market (2025) | ~$2,800B | eMarketer (third-party estimate) |
| Social media advertising (2025) | ~$320B | eMarketer (third-party estimate) |
| Reddit FY2025 advertising revenue | $2,062.5M | Company announcement |
| Reddit advertising market share | ~0.64% | Calculated (caveat: Reddit revenue is global, the market figure is US) |
| Reddit advertising TAM (potential) | ~$6-10B | Industry estimate, see §2.1.4 |
Reddit's $2,062.5M of advertising revenue sits inside a ~$2,800B US digital advertising market and a ~$320B social media advertising market, a share of ~0.64% of the total. The industry estimate puts the reachable advertising TAM at ~$6-10B — still a fraction of the $320B social advertising pool in 2025.
Market growth drivers:
- Advertisers moving away from X: 26% of advertisers plan to cut X spend (the largest platform pullback of 2025, third-party survey)
- Gen Z search behaviour: 32% of Gen Z append "reddit" after a Google search each week (third-party survey)
- B2B research platform: 54% of Gen Z B2B software buyers research products on Reddit (third-party survey)
- Reddit Answers rising: 28M queries/day, 18% of platform traffic (third-party estimate)
Taken together these are the four arguments for how a $2,062.5M advertising business inside a ~$2,800B market keeps compounding: an advertiser base in active retreat from X, a Gen Z audience that appends Reddit to its search behaviour, a research habit among B2B software buyers, and a fast-growing AI search surface inside the platform itself.
2.1.2 User metrics (Q4 2025, company-reported)
The user base is still compounding at a double-digit rate, and more than half of it now sits outside the US, which is where the next leg of growth comes from.
| Metric | Value | YoY growth |
|---|---|---|
| DAUq (global) | 121.4M | +19% |
| DAUq (US) | 52.5M | +9% |
| DAUq (international) | 68.9M | +28% |
| Logged-in DAUq | 50.7M | +10% |
| Logged-out DAUq | 70.7M | +27% |
| WAUq (global) | 471.6M | +24% |
| ARPU (global) | $5.98 | +42% |
| ARPU (US) | $10.79 | +53% |
| ARPU (international) | $2.31 | +38% |
| MAUq (estimated) | 1.1B+ | — |
| Average dwell time (US, third-party estimate) | 32 min/day | +5min |
User composition (third-party aggregation, estimates):
| Dimension | Data |
|---|---|
| Gender | 60% male, 40% female |
| Age | 64% under 35, with the 18-29 cohort most engaged |
| Device | 84% mobile |
| Geography | 43% US, 57% international (Q4 2025 DAUq basis; international growth +28% versus US +9%, roughly 3x) |
The composition explains the ARPU split: the US generates $10.79 per user against $2.31 internationally, and the fastest-growing regions are India at +74%, Brazil at +62% and Germany at +58%.
International growth (third-party aggregation, estimates, not a company-reported basis):
| Region | DAU share | YoY growth |
|---|---|---|
| US | 50% | +22% |
| UK | 8% | +34% |
| Canada | 6% | +28% |
| Germany | 3% | +58% |
| Australia | 2% | +31% |
| India | 5% | +74% |
| Brazil | 3% | +62% |
2.1.3 The community ecosystem
Community depth, not monthly active users, is the asset. Reddit's engagement per user runs far above the short-video norm, and the moderation effort that sustains it is invisible in the financial statements.
The community metrics below come from a third-party aggregation (Digital Applied), not a company-reported basis, and are for order-of-magnitude reference only.
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Active subreddits | 100,000+ |
| Monthly posts | 16M+ |
| Monthly comments | 235M+ |
| Monthly votes | 4.1B+ |
| Monthly awards | 12B+ (2025) |
| Active moderators | 60,000+ (mostly unpaid) |
| AMA count | 380,000+ (2025) |
Top 10 subreddits by subscribers (third-party aggregation, estimates):
| subreddit | Subscribers | Positioning |
|---|---|---|
| r/funny | 67M | Entertainment |
| r/AskReddit | 49M | Q&A |
| r/wallstreetbets | 18M | Finance |
| r/AskMen | 8.5M | Male-oriented topics |
| r/AskWomen | 7.4M | Female-oriented topics |
| r/gaming | 35M | Gaming |
| r/technology | 7M | Technology |
| r/science | 45M | Science |
| r/Awwww | 30M | Pets |
| r/news | 20M | News |
Content distribution (third-party aggregation, estimates):
| Category | Share of posts | Average comments/post | YoY growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| News and politics | 15% | 23.6 | +11% |
| Entertainment | 13% | 18.2 | +8% |
| Gaming | 12% | 21.4 | +19% |
| Technology | 9% | 14.8 | +24% |
| Finance and investing | 7% | 27.9 | +33% |
The distribution shows where the engagement sits: finance and investing produce the most comments per post at 27.9 and grew +33%, while news and politics is the largest category by volume at 15% of posts but grew only +11%. The platform's deepest vertical is also its fastest-growing one.
2.1.4 TAM sizing
A market-share arithmetic exercise frames what the numbers could look like if Reddit executes. The assumptions are deliberately simple, and they are also the assumptions most likely to be wrong.
TAM (total addressable market):
- US social media advertising: $320B (2025)
- Reddit target share: 2-3% (becoming a top 5 advertising platform)
- Potential advertising revenue: $6-10B
SAM (serviceable addressable market):
- Serviceable basis: the non-brand and performance advertising slice of social advertising, about $150-200B (roughly half the social advertising pool)
- Reddit target penetration rate: 3-5%
- Potential advertising revenue: $5-10B (inside the $6-10B TAM range)
SOM (serviceable obtainable market):
- Current advertising revenue: $2,062.5M (FY2025)
- 3-year target: $4-5B
- Annual growth rate: 25-40%
The three layers have to satisfy TAM ≥ SAM ≥ SOM: the TAM potential of $6-10B is at or above the SAM range of $5-10B, which is at or above the current $2,062.5M and the $4-5B target. An earlier version of this report had the SAM ($10-20B) sitting above the TAM ($6-10B), an inverted hierarchy that has been re-ordered on this basis.
2.2 Competitive landscape and moat
Reddit competes in a market dominated by two players whose combined advertising revenue dwarfs its own $2.06B, and it competes on trust rather than on reach.
The four framework judgements, stated up front:
- Supply/demand regime — demand expanding, supply expanding. Digital advertising keeps taking share from offline budgets, and a second demand source opened with AI training-data licensing. Supply is expanding at the same time: Meta and Google keep adding inventory, Amazon and TikTok keep taking share, and AI answer engines are absorbing the attention that used to go to search. This is the emerging-industry regime — the demand is real, the supply response is not constrained, and the premium in the sector is a growth premium rather than a scarcity premium.
- Competition intensity — high. Two platforms with monopoly-grade scale and better measurement sit above Reddit; below it, Pinterest and Snap compete for the same brand budgets. Reddit's counter-position is trust and topic depth rather than reach, which is a defensible niche but not a position from which to set price.
- Moat type — customer stickiness (community network effects) plus one-step-ahead (the data corpus). Stickiness here is unusually strong in one direction: a subreddit's archive and moderation culture cannot be replicated by launching a competitor, because the value is in the conversation built up over years. The data corpus is the second moat: it is a by-product of the first, which makes it cheap to hold and hard to replicate.
- Pricing power — third level for advertising, fifth for data licensing. Ad inventory is priced against Meta and Google (competitor-set), so Reddit is a price taker there. Licensing is different: the corpus is scarce, the buyer has no substitute of comparable depth, and the contracts are negotiated bilaterally — which is the only part of the revenue base where Reddit sets price.
The financial consequence is what matters: a 91.2% gross margin with 38.4% Adjusted EBITDA margin says the community asset converts to profit, but the fact that revenue is still 90%+ advertising says the pricing-power advantage has not yet moved into the P&L.
2.2.1 Market structure
Advertising platform landscape (Meta and Google are company-reported or public statistics for FY2025; the rest are third-party estimates):
Tier 1 (monopoly-grade): Meta ($196B), Google ($295B)
Tier 2 (mainstream): Amazon (~$50B), Apple (~$30B), TikTok ($20B+), X ($5-8B)
Tier 3 (growth-grade): Reddit ($2.06B), Pinterest ($4B), Snap ($4B)
Platform-by-platform detail:
| Platform | 2025 ad revenue | DAU | Core strength | Weakness | Relationship to Reddit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meta | $196B | 3.6B | User scale, precise targeting | Ad fatigue, privacy regulation | Competitor |
| $295B | — | Search monopoly, AI advantage | High advertising costs | Partner and competitor | |
| TikTok | $20B+ | 2B | Gen Z reach, short video | Data privacy controversy | Competitor |
| X | $5-8B | 500M | Real-time news, political discussion | User attrition, brand risk | Beneficiary (advertiser shift) |
| $4B | 450M | Shopping intent, visual search | Small user base | Competitor (B2C) | |
| $2.06B | 121.4M | Community trust, B2B research | Small user base | — |
Two features of that table shape the risk profile. Google and Meta are partners as well as competitors — the Google data licensing deal is simultaneously a revenue line and a reminder that the largest platform in the market is also a customer. And X sits on the other side of the ledger: its $5-8B of advertising revenue is what migrates when advertisers change platforms, which is the mechanism Reddit's growth case depends on.
2.2.2 Reddit's differentiation
The moat is real but narrow: exclusive AI data at one end, community culture at the other, and almost no pricing power in between.
Assessment against the five moat types:
| Moat element | Reddit's position | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| Non-marketable resource | Exclusive AI training-data licensing (Google + OpenAI) | ★★★★★ Scarce |
| Customer stickiness | Community culture across 100K+ subreddits, high switching costs | ★★★★ Strong |
| Cost advantage | Asset-light, marginal cost approaching zero | ★★★ Moderate |
| Scale effects | More users → more content → better advertising | ★★★★ Strong |
| Pricing power | Ad pricing constrained by the market, but CPM is below competitors | ★★ Weak |
Two of the five moat types score four stars or better: customer stickiness, where the culture across 100K+ subreddit communities is expensive to recreate, and scale effects, where each additional user adds content that improves the advertising product. The weak spot is pricing power at two stars, because ad pricing is constrained by the market even though CPM sits below competitors. The five-star rating belongs to non-marketable resources: exclusive AI training-data licensing from Google and OpenAI is the one asset here a competitor with more users cannot simply assemble.
Core differentiation:
- Community trust: users volunteer real experiences, so advertising converts better than on other platforms
- B2B research standing: 54% of Gen Z B2B software buyers research products on Reddit
- AI data value: high-quality UGC is a core asset for AI training
- Content depth: long threaded discussion versus shallow short-video consumption
2.2.3 Competitive intensity
Competitive intensity is moderate today and trending higher, and every forward-looking assumption in this report assumes it stays manageable.
- Current intensity: moderate
- Meta and Google dominate but their growth is slowing
- TikTok threatens Gen Z attention
- X user attrition opens an opportunity for Reddit
- Trend: intensity is rising
- TikTok adds comment sections
- Google deepens its AI Overview integration
- LinkedIn strengthens its B2B content
2.3 Growth drivers
Growth comes from three places at once, and the platform model and international expansion are the two that still have room to run.
| Lens | Driver | Quantification | Certainty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Demand side | Advertisers shifting away from X plus digital advertising growth | 26% X ad attrition, Reddit benefits | High |
| Cost side | Diminishing marginal cost (platform model) | Gross margin 91%, FCF margin 31% | High |
| Expansion side | International expansion + Reddit Answers + AI data licensing | International DAU +28%, Answers 28M queries/day (third-party estimate) | Medium |
The growth flywheel:
More users → More content → More data → AI optimisation → Better experience → More advertisers → More revenue → More users
Read the sequence as a cost argument as much as a demand argument: each link adds content without adding content-production infrastructure cost, and each link adds advertisers who bid for the attention that content produces.
Metrics to track:
- DAUq growth: +19% YoY (Q4 2025)
- ARPU growth: +42% YoY (Q4 2025)
- International DAU growth: +28% YoY (Q4 2025)
- Reddit Answers daily queries: 28M (third-party estimate)
- Advertiser count: 1.2M+ (Reddit Pro, third-party aggregation)
3. Risks and Financial Red Flags
The downside risks here are cyclical and competitive rather than accounting risks, and the single largest one is an advertising recession.
3.1 Key risks
| Risk | Trigger | Historical case | Quantified impact | Severity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Macroeconomic recession | Negative GDP growth, advertising budget cuts | Social ad spend fell 15% in 2022 | AD revenue -20-30%, revenue growth slows | ★★★★★ |
| X users return | Musk improves the platform experience, advertisers come back | X user return case of 2020 | Reddit's user acquisition cost rises, growth slows | ★★★★ |
| TikTok competition | TikTok launches comment or long-video features | TikTok Shop commerce competition | Gen Z time share declines | ★★★★ |
| AI data licensing renewal negotiations | Google/OpenAI squeeze price or terminate | 2024 data licensing contract negotiations | Loss of $100-130M/year of revenue | ★★★ |
| Regulatory change | Data privacy laws, content moderation rules | GDPR, COPPA cases | Compliance costs rise, some features restricted | ★★★ |
| Content moderation controversy | Inappropriate content triggers public criticism | 2020 case of subreddits being banned | Brand damage, advertiser churn | ★★★ |
| SBC dilution | Equity compensation keeps diluting | FY2025 SBC $343M | EPS dilution of 15-20% | ★★☆ |
Severity ranks the recession first at five stars: a GDP contraction cuts advertising budgets, and 2022 already showed what that does — social ad spend fell 15%. Two four-star risks flank it, in the form of X users returning and TikTok competing for Gen Z attention. The three-star band is where the company-specific exposures sit: AI licensing renewal terms, regulation, and moderation controversy. Dilution is rated last at two stars, because a 15-20% EPS drag is painful but not existential.
3.2 Financial red-flag checklist
The red-flag checklist comes back clean, with one recurring caveat around stock-based compensation.
| Red flag | RDDT position | Conclusion |
|---|---|---|
| Earnings do not match cash flow | Operating cash flow / net income 130% (profit below cash flow because SBC is a large non-cash item) | ✅ Cash flow is the more reliable signal |
| High growth with weak cash flow | Operating cash flow negative in 2022-23, turned positive at $222M in 2024 and $691M in 2025 | ✅ Continuously improving |
| Accounts receivable surging | Receivables / revenue fell from 30.5% (2023) to 26.8% (2025) | ✅ Improving |
| Reliance on external financing | IPO raised $748M, cash and securities $2,477M (2025), no further financing needed | ✅ Financially healthy |
| Financial leverage | Liabilities / assets 9.6%; no interest-bearing debt, with the $310M of liabilities entirely payables, lease and other operating items | ✅ Very low risk |
| Earnings sustainability | Adj EBITDA margin 38% (2025), FCF margin 31% | ✅ Platform model proven |
| Goodwill and intangibles | Goodwill $42M, intangibles $15.5M (asset-light company) | ✅ Low risk |
| SBC dilution | FY2025 SBC $343M, 16% of revenue | ⚠️ Worth watching but manageable |
Conclusion: financial quality is highly credible — cash flow keeps improving, the balance sheet is healthy (cash and securities of $2,477M against total liabilities of $310M, with no interest-bearing debt), and there are no signs of accounting manipulation. The main risks are cyclicality and competition, not integrity.
3.3 Management assessment
Reddit is one of the few cases in this library where the management record is long enough to judge on behaviour rather than on presentation.
- Entrepreneurial drive. Steve Huffman co-founded the company in 2005, left, returned in 2015, and has run it since. A founder who comes back to a business he built is a different signal from a hired operator: the decisions tend to be about the institution rather than the quarter.
- Strategic vision. The 2023 API pricing decision was unpopular with a vocal minority of moderators and developers and it was made anyway. Whatever one thinks of it, it is evidence of a management team willing to price its asset to the people who capture value from it — and the advertising and licensing businesses that followed are the payoff.
- Organisation. Class B shares carry ten votes and are held by the founders and early investors; the company is a "controlled company" under NYSE rules. That structure protects the strategy from short-term pressure and it also removes the minority holder's ability to change course.
- Innovation. The product roadmap has been conservative — better ad formats, better search, community tools — rather than a reinvention. In a business whose asset is the archive, that is the right kind of conservatism.
- Integrity. Guidance has been met or beaten since the IPO, the share count is disclosed cleanly, and no related-party or restatement issues appear in the filing history. The honest caveat is that the public record is only two years long.
Net: the strongest management evidence in the five published reports, with the controlled-company structure as the offsetting governance discount.
4. Preliminary Value Assessment
4.1 The fulcrum of the thesis
The thesis has three time horizons, and each one carries a specific, checkable validation standard.
| Horizon | Fulcrum of the thesis | Validation standard |
|---|---|---|
| 3-5 years | Advertising revenue from $2.06B to $4-5B, AI data licensing persists, Reddit Answers becomes mainstream | Annual revenue CAGR > 30%, DAU > 200M |
| 5-10 years | AI data licensing extends to more large models, Reddit becomes the core entry point for generative search | AI licensing revenue share > 15%, WAU > 1B |
| Lifelong | Community-driven information retrieval is an irreversible trend, and Reddit is the only public community platform | Stays a top 5 social advertising platform |
Each horizon carries a different burden of proof. The three-to-five-year case is an execution question and is checkable each quarter against revenue growth and daily users. The five-to-ten-year case is a claim about model developers' appetite for licensed human content, and it is checked against the share of revenue that licensing represents. The lifelong case is not a forecast so much as a bet that community-driven information retrieval is irreversible and that Reddit remains one of the five largest social advertising platforms.
4.2 Five high-value traits scorecard
Reddit scores four out of five on the traits of a high-value business, with pricing power and management verification as the two open items.
| Trait | Assessment | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Large and monetizable social value | ★★★★ | Digital advertising is a multi-trillion-dollar market and Reddit leads a niche inside it |
| High-quality business economics | ★★★★ | Platform model, high marginal profit, asset-light |
| Value-expansion stage | ★★★★ | Revenue +69%, margins improving quickly |
| High replacement cost and pricing power | ★★★ | Community culture is hard to replicate, but advertising pricing power is limited |
| Trustworthy, competent management | ★★★ | Huffman executes well, but a narrative-driven story needs verification |
Four stars for the first three traits — social value, business economics and the value-expansion stage — describes a business monetising a large market with platform economics in an early phase of compounding. Three stars for replacement cost and pricing power separates what the community protects from what it cannot: the culture is hard to copy, the ad price is not. Management gets three stars rather than four because the execution record is strong but the equity story is narrative-heavy and still needs verification.
4.3 R/N/g — locating the value-creation cycle
On R/N/g the business sits in the early-to-mid value expansion phase: strong expansion capability, moderate duration of advantage.
| Element | Assessment | Supporting data |
|---|---|---|
| R — Return on equity | From -22% (2023) to 18% (2025) to an estimated 22%+ (2026) | Stable after profitability, but ROE is affected by SBC |
| N — Duration of advantage | Depends on preserving community culture, the advertising cycle and regulatory permission | Moderate (cyclical exposure) |
| g — Net-asset expansion rate | Revenue +69%, DAUq +19%, strong expansion capability | High (steep segment of the S-curve) |
Position: early-to-mid value expansion — fundamentals are improving quickly, but part of the growth expectation is already in the price.
4.4 Valuation: three lenses and the premium test
Premium test first, lenses second.
- Value-creation stage: met. The profit inflection happened in 2025 and the flywheel is still accelerating (revenue +69% YoY), so the return on offer comes from future increments.
- DCF traits: met. Asset-light, negative working capital, 91.2% gross margin, and free cash flow that has turned positive without heavy capital expenditure.
- Earnings certainty: partly met. Two years of public results, one of which was the first profitable year; advertising is cyclical and the licensing revenue is contract-by-contract.
Valuation quadrant: A. The business meets the premium conditions and the question is only price. The framework's treatment for quadrant A is to hold through a premium and commit at a discount — which is why the work below is about locating the range rather than about whether the business deserves one.
At $154.46 the market is paying a growth multiple for a company whose revenue is still mostly advertising.
4.4.1 Current valuation coordinates
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Share price (September 4, 2026 close) | $154.46 | Yahoo Finance daily closes |
| Shares outstanding (July 29, 2026) | 192.4M shares | Q2 2026 10-Q cover page |
| Market cap | ~$29.7B | 192.4M × $154.46 |
| Cash and securities | $2,477M | FY2025 balance sheet |
| Interest-bearing debt | $0 | No borrowings on the balance sheet |
| EV | ~$27.2B | Market cap − net cash of $2.48B |
| EV/Adj EBITDA (FY2025 $845M) | ~32x | Calculated |
| EV/EBITDA (2026E EBITDA ~$1.1B) | ~25x | Calculated |
| P/E (FY2025 diluted EPS $2.62) | ~59x | Calculated |
| Forward P/E (2026E EPS ~$3.5) | ~44x | Calculated |
| P/S (FY2025 revenue $2.20B) | ~13.5x | Calculated |
| P/S (2026E revenue ~$3.0B) | ~10x | Calculated |
| FCF yield (2026E FCF $800M / EV $27.2B) | ~2.9% | Calculated |
4.4.2 Peer comparison
| Company | Forward P/E | EV/EBITDA | Growth | Ad revenue | Point of difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RDDT | ~44x | ~25x | +36% | $2.06B | AI data plus community, fastest growth |
| Meta | ~22x | ~15x | +10% | $196B | Scale advantage, slowing growth |
| ~20x | ~12x | +8% | $295B | Search monopoly | |
| TikTok (private) | — | — | +50%+ | $20B+ | Fastest growth |
| ~35x | — | +15% | $4B | Shopping intent | |
| Snap | ~50x+ | — | +20% | $4B | Young users |
Peer multiples are third-party platform estimates (MarketBeat, Simply Wall St and similar), not precise figures; they are order-of-magnitude references only.
RDDT's valuation premium — justification:
- Fastest growth (+36% versus 8-20% for peers)
- AI data licensing is a unique revenue source
- Community trust drives high advertising conversion
- Conclusion: the valuation premium is justified, but it requires sustained growth to support it
4.4.3 Historical range (post-IPO)
- IPO price: $34 (priced March 20, 2024, listed March 21, 2024)
- High: $282.95 intraday (September 18, 2025; close $270.71 the same day)
- Low: $37.35 intraday (April 18, 2024; close $41.72 the same day)
- 52-week range (to September 4, 2026): $126.38 (March 30, 2026) – $282.95 (September 18, 2025)
- Current: $154.46 (September 4, 2026)
- Position: 45% below the post-IPO high, roughly 18% above the lower end of the 52-week range
4.4.4 Third-party analyst estimates
| Source | Implied value | Implied move vs $154.46 | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| MarketBeat consensus (29 analysts) | $219.29 | +42% | October 21, 2026 |
| MarketBeat analyst range | $110-300 | -29% ~ +94% | October 21, 2026 |
Note: the $50.63 MarketBeat consensus figure that circulated earlier is clearly anomalous data; it has been verified as erroneous and removed. The current consensus is $219.29 (29 analysts, range $110-300), 42% above this report's valuation reference price of $154.46 — third-party sell-side models typically assume faster advertising growth and better margins than this report does, so the figure is a market-sentiment reference only, not a valuation input.
4.5 Object type and three scenarios
Object type: current advantage. The community, the traffic and the data corpus are all earning money now; nothing in the case depends on a capability that does not yet exist. The risk that follows from this classification is the one the framework warns about — a current-advantage business can already be late in its value-creation cycle, and the price is the only thing that distinguishes a good business from a good investment.
The base case lands slightly below the current price, which means the upside case has to do the work.
| Scenario | Assumption | Revenue 2026E | Adj EBITDA 2026E | Fair EV/EBITDA | Enterprise value | Equity value (+ net cash $2.48B) | Implied value per share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bear case | Advertising recession + international growth stalls | $2.6B | $780M | 20x | $15.6B | $18.1B | ~$94 |
| Base case | Steady advertising + international growth +15% | $3.0B | $1.05B | 25x | $26.3B | $28.7B | ~$149 |
| Bull case | AI licensing renewals negotiated successfully + Answers breakout | $3.5B | $1.3B | 30x | $39.0B | $41.5B | ~$216 |
Framework conclusion: the base case (~$149) sits just below the current $154.46, so meaningful upside requires bull-case execution, while the bear case maps to -39% of downside.
5. Valuation Range Under Stated Assumptions
5.1 Assumptions
The valuation work starts from a simple balance sheet: 192.4M shares, $2,477M of cash and securities, and no interest-bearing debt.
| Assumption | Value | Source / basis |
|---|---|---|
| Valuation reference date | September 4, 2026 | The last trading day before the September 5, 2026 analysis date |
| Current price | $154.46 | Yahoo Finance daily close |
| Shares | 192.4M shares | Class A 146.1M + Class B 46.3M (Q2 2026 10-Q, July 29, 2026) |
| Market cap | ~$29.7B | 192.4M × $154.46 |
| Cash and securities | $2,477M | FY2025 balance sheet (cash $954M + marketable securities $1,523M) |
| Interest-bearing debt | $0 | No borrowings on the balance sheet; the $310M is the operating liability total, not debt |
| Net cash (December 31, 2025) | ~$2.48B | $2,477M − $0 |
| Enterprise value (EV) | ~$27.2B | Market cap − net cash |
| FY2026E revenue | ~$3.0B | Extrapolated from the FY2025 run rate (Q1 2026 management guidance $595-605M) |
| FY2026E Adj EBITDA | ~$1.1B | 37% margin (FY2025 was 38.4%) |
| FY2026E EPS | ~$3.5 | ~23% net margin × $3.0B ÷ ~202M diluted shares |
| Third-party consensus implied value | $219.29 (MarketBeat, 29 analysts) | Retrieved October 21, 2026 |
5.2 Method 1: EV/EBITDA peer scenarios
Net cash bridge: value per share = (enterprise value + net cash of $2.48B) ÷ 192.4M shares.
| Scenario | Multiple × EBITDA | Enterprise value | Equity value | Value per share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bear | 18x × $800M | $14.4B | $16.9B | ~$88 |
| Conservative | 22x × $900M | $19.8B | $22.3B | ~$116 |
| Base | 26x × $1.1B | $28.6B | $31.1B | ~$162 |
| Bull | 32x × $1.3B | $41.6B | $44.1B | ~$229 |
| Very bull | 40x × $1.5B | $60.0B | $62.5B | ~$325 |
This is a "multiple × EBITDA base" sensitivity grid. Each row uses a different EBITDA base from the three-scenario assumptions in §4.5, so the enterprise value and value per share for the same scenario name differ from §4.5. The risk/reward grid in §5.6 consistently uses the §4.5 scenario anchors ($94 / $149 / $216).
5.3 Method 2: P/S comparison (2026E revenue ~$3.0B, 192.4M shares)
| P/S | Implied market cap | Implied price | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6x | $18.0B | $94 | Conservative (peers: Meta 8x, TikTok not disclosed) |
| 8x | $24.0B | $125 | Reasonably low |
| 10x | $30.0B | $156 | Reasonably high |
| 12x | $36.0B | $187 | Growth premium |
| 15x | $45.0B | $234 | Optimistic |
The band that matters for the current quote is 8-12x, because that is where the $140-190 range sits; 10x on the 2026E base gives the $156 implied price.
5.4 Method 3: P/E comparison (2026E EPS ~$3.5)
| P/E | Implied price | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| 30x | $105 | Conservative (floor for a growth stock) |
| 40x | $140 | Reasonably low |
| 50x | $175 | Reasonably high |
| 60x | $210 | Optimistic |
| 80x | $280 | Highly optimistic |
At $154.46 the implied price of $140 at 40x sits just below the current quote, while the $140-190 base band corresponds to 40-55x.
5.5 Where the three methods converge
The three methods overlap in a $140-190 band, with a bear floor below $105 and a bull ceiling above $216.
| Band | Price range | Implied multiples | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bear floor | $88-105 | EV/EBITDA 18x $88 / P/S 6x $94 / P/E 30x $105 | Advertising recession + international stall |
| Margin-of-safety band | $105-140 | P/E 30-40x $105-140 / EV/EBITDA 22x $116 / P/S 8x $125 | A 15-36% discount to the $165 midpoint of the base band |
| Base fair band | $140-190 | P/E 40-55x $140-193 / P/S 10-12x $156-187 / EV/EBITDA 26x $162 | The current $154.46 sits at the lower end of this band |
| Current price | $154.46 | P/E 44x / P/S 10x / EV/EBITDA 25x | Lower end of the base band, with the odds close to balanced |
| Bull ceiling | $216-325 | EV/EBITDA 32-40x $229-325 / P/E 60-80x $210-280 | Requires repeated beat-and-raise delivery |
5.6 Risk/reward balance
The risk/reward arithmetic is the part that matters: at $154.46 the downside to the bear case (-39%) is roughly the same size as the upside to the bull case (+40%).
Scenario anchors: bear $94, base $149, bull $216.
| Price level | To bear ($94) | To base ($149) | To bull ($216) | Risk/reward read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $120 | -22% | +24% | +80% | ✅ Attractive odds |
| $140 | -33% | +6% | +54% | ⚠️ Break-even |
| $154.46 (current) | -39% | -4% | +40% | ⚠️ Odds close to balanced |
| $180 | -48% | -17% | +20% | ❌ Unfavourable odds |
The grid is a sensitivity exercise rather than a forecast: each row asks what happens to the modelled distribution from a given price level. At $120 the downside is -22% against +80% to the bull case, and the odds are attractive. At $140 the reward almost disappears (+6% to base) while the bear case costs -33%, so the odds are break-even. At the current $154.46 the asymmetry is roughly symmetric — -39% to the bear case against +40% to the bull case — and at $180 it is clearly unfavourable.
Final conclusion:
- Base fair value ≈ $140-190 per share (the band where the three methods converge)
- Margin-of-safety band ≤ $120-140
- At $154.46 the stock sits at the lower end of the base band — the business passes the filter, but the margin of safety is still limited
- The current valuation embeds an assumption of sustained high growth; any slowdown in growth rates could trigger a sharp pullback
6. Monitoring Framework and Review Triggers
The framework below is built to be monitored and re-underwritten as facts arrive, not acted on mechanically.
| Dimension | Read |
|---|---|
| Thesis type | Early-to-mid value expansion (high growth plus improving margins) |
| Who this research suits | Growth-oriented investors who can absorb advertising-cycle volatility and who accept the value of AI data assets |
| Price levels that would flip the verdict | At $154.46 the shares trade at ~25x 2026E EV/EBITDA, ~44x 2026E P/E and ~10x 2026E P/S — the lower end of the $140-190 base band. At $120-140 (18-22x EV/EBITDA, 30-40x P/E) the price would be a 15-36% discount to the $165 midpoint of the base band, which is where the margin-of-safety read turns constructive. Above $190 the price starts to require bull-case execution: at ~$216 (30x 2026E EV/EBITDA) the implied value needs the AI licensing renewals and the Answers breakout, while the bear case at 20x EV/EBITDA maps to about $94 |
| What to monitor | ① Quarterly DAUq growth ② Advertising revenue growth ③ AI data licensing renewals ④ International user growth ⑤ Reddit Answers usage |

8. Summary
RDDT is a combination of high growth, high margins and an AI data narrative.
- High growth: revenue +69%, Q4 advertising +75%, on the steep segment of the S-curve
- High margins: gross margin 91.2%, Adj EBITDA margin 38.4%, FCF margin 31%
- AI data narrative: Google $60M/year plus OpenAI $70M/year, exclusive training-data assets
But:
- Valuation is not cheap (EV/2026E EBITDA 25x, Forward P/E 44x) and the margin of safety is limited
- The advertising business is exposed to the economic cycle
- TikTok and X competition is a continuing condition
- SBC dilution (FY2025 $343M, 16% of revenue)
- At $154.46 the stock is at the lower end of the base band ($140-190), with the odds close to balanced rather than clearly favourable
Framework verdict: early-to-mid value expansion, a fair-premium name — a good business, but the price is full.
The verdict is the sum of those two lists: the business passes the filter, and at the current price there is little room for error.
This report walks the complete analytical workflow: data pipeline (EDGAR) → the five-step framework skeleton → ground-truth research → valuation work → monitoring framework. It is not investment advice.
